In 2002 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) adopted the National Organic Standards. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) is accredited by USDA to certify Organic Production/Processing/Handling entities within the state of Louisiana. LDAF certifies a host of Louisiana grown crops including fruits (blackberries, blueberries, & citrus); pasture and hay; nuts (pecans); vegetables; & herbs. In addition, several livestock operations are currently certified producing organic milk and organic certified beef and lamb.
